Baby it’s Cold Outside…

…and it’s not set to get warmer anytime soon for most parts of the world!

This time last week I was getting overly excited about the fact that it was going to snow here in New York. Naturally, I was expecting a few feet of snow not just the usual couple of inches we’d get back in the UK. So I started thinking about all the things I could do while being snowed in all weekend.

Back when I was in University, a snow day would mean ALL DAY DRINKING. I remember back when I was in first year, we woke up to a couple of inches of snow. We assumed that, being less than a minute walk from our campus, out lecture would still be on. But we were pleased to find out that our lecturer hadn’t made it in, sooo we were free for the day!

So instead of heading back to bed at 8:30am, our flat and a few others (I mean pretty much the whole block!) thought it would be a good idea to start drinking. We spent the whole day running between each flat, persuading others to join our little party and making friends with people we hadn’t met before. We even ended the day by somehow making our way to MooMoos (our usual Wednesday night club). This may be one of my favourite days from my first year of uni. I just remember everyone hanging out together and having the best time!

Since then, it kind of became a tradition that as soon as we saw a little bit of snow we’d purchase as much wine as possible and spend the day in in our own little bubble.

Although we didn’t quite get the snow I was hoping for, that would have us locked in for the weekend… I’ve put together a couple of indoor activities that’ll keep you entertained for the next time it does get too cold to go outside!

1. Binge watch a new series

Netflix has so many good series to choose from at the moment. If you haven’t yet seen it, I would recommend Stranger Things. Both series can be watched in a week… trust me, I know!

2. Go shopping – online, of course!

This one can be dangerous… try to maybe get your Christmas shopping done, rather than looking for yourself!🙈 Either way you can stay warm under a blanket on the sofa and purchase at the same time!

< b> 3. Cosy up with a book and hot chocolate<<
ab a new book, a nice comfy blanket and get someone to make you a nice hot chocolate with all the extras (hot chocolate is sooooo much better when someone makes it for you!)

<<
reading right now consists of wedding magazines and wedding venue proposals, but for a little winter inspiration check out Cosmopolitans top reads now it’s too cold to go outside.

4. Bring out the board games<<
ere are sooooo many fun board games to choose from for anything from two players to 10 players! There’s Monopoly (this one will keep you busy for HOURS), Cluedo, Scrabble, Jenga (Sean and play a little drinking game with this one… the loser has to take a shot of the worst liquor that we have in the house!), oh and then there’s Trivia!

Remember that iconic scene in Friends ‘The One with the Quiz’!? Where the boys and girls go head-to-head in an elaborate trivia game and the girls end up losing their apartment? I’ve always wanted to play a head-to-head game like that with a good group of friends.

BuzzFeed have created an online replica of the Friends trivia game so you can test your knowledge on your favorite characters. Or if you want to play a little closer to home, you could totally create a version of this game for you and your family and friends to play! Include personal questions about each of you… but maybe keep the stakes a little lower!

5. Bake/Cook/Make Cocktails<<
ve fun in the kitchen! Bake cookies or cakes, create your own cocktail or try out a new dish you found online, but make it fun… maybe even host your own version of ‘Come Dine With Me’ and invite a few friends over to enjoy!

This is something Sean and I actually did do this past weekend! We made our very own Sangria. Sean named it the Slutty Santa Sangria 😂 The recipe includes a bottle of red wine, spiced rum (we kinda put the whole bottle of this in too🙈), orange juice, ginger ale, apple cider and a lil Absinthe… topped off with chopped apples and pears!

It actually tasted super good… STRONG, but good! I’m definitely making sure we have a jug of this ready for Christmas Eve!

OR…if the cold never bothered you anyway🎶 (see what I did there😉) GO OUTSIDE AND BUILD A SNOWMAN!! Even though Sean HATES the cold I did manage to get him out for long enough to build a pretty cool (but kinda small) snowman.

I hope this gives you a few fun ideas for when you’re next feeling like cosying up indoors for the weekend!

Jx
